So today we were away to Carshalton Athletic in a pre season friendly. For some reason my dad (Hackbridge Harry) wanted to go shopping In the centre of Sutton before the game. He only wanted to go to 2 shops and one of them was closed. One the way to Carshalton. We got on the wrong bus which would have taken us to Worcester Park.
We got on the right bus in the end and made our way to the village of Carshalton. Carshalton is a small area in Sutton and is most famous for it's local pond. It is a very nice place compared to the rest of Sutton, though you could probably say that about anywhere if it was in Sutton. The only good part of Sutton is it's 3 chippys and 2 Greggs. We arrived at the ground in anticipation of our biggest game since last season finished.
Carshalton have a really nice ground and a cracking stand across the side and I have a few friends over there. Always enjoy my visits to Colston Avenue and I usually go there If I can't make a Tooting away game.
Carshalton had a brilliant first season back in the Bostik Premier, obviously much better than our first season back in the Bostik prem. They finished second but just missed out on promotion as the lost in the play off semi final to another village team named Merstham.
The game started and Tooting played really well in the first half and dominated the game. We just couldn't get the ball in the back of the net. You wouldn't have thought that the Robins were a league above us by the way we were playing.
Half Time: Carshalton 0-0 Tooting
The second half began where the first half left of with Tooting dominating the game and having a lot of chances. We finally scored around 10 minutes into the second half when Alex Filipe ran past a few defenders to put the ball into the back of the net. 1-0 Tooting
Omari Hibbert doubled our lead a few minutes later and we were playing brilliant football and taking our chances. 2-0 Tooting.
Danny Bassett finished off the game scoring our third with a brilliant finish. We had a few more chances which could have so easily gone in. 3-0 Tooting.
Full Time: Carshalton Athletic 0-3 Tooting and Mitcham
It wasn't a full Carshalton first team but you can only beat what is put in front of you. Really proud of the team today, a professional performance.
We made our way home and stopped off at our local chippy, Equinox Fish Bar in the City of Hackbridge. I am lucky to live near this chippy and it's one of the best things about Hackbridge.
I hope you all enjoyed this blog. Many more will come when the season starts.
